Jim Laseter heads up Laseter Business Coaching, a business coaching and consulting practice serving business owners in the advertising and marketing communications industry throughout the United States.

Jim retired in 2005 as a founding partner, chairman and chief executive officer of Wray Ward Laseter, one of the largest independently owned advertising and marketing firms in the southeastern United States. During the two decades he led the organization, WWL solidified its reputation as a creative powerhouse, was ranked in the top five per cent of advertising agencies nationwide with regard to profitability and grew revenues over 200%. As a consultant and business coach to the marketing communications industry, he has a national reputation as an expert in business management issues.

Jim began his career as a business owner in 1980 with the founding of The Laseter Group, an advertising agency in Charlotte. After a decade of rapid growth, The Laseter Group merged with Wray Ward  Advertising in 1990, after which Jim became majority stockholder of the firm. During his tenure as CEO, he added public relations, web and strategic planning divisions to the firm to create a fully integrated marketing communications organization. During Jim’s tenure, clients included Springs Industries, Milliken Automotive Division, Glen Raven and Sunbrella fabrics, WIX Automotive Filters, Cheerwine soft drinks, Rack Room Shoes, and Subway restaurants throughout the Carolinas. The firm continues today as a leader in the marketing communications industry in the southeast.

Jim attended Wofford College and is a cum laude graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University, where he was inducted into Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest national honor society and listed in Who’s Who in American Universities. He has had over 100 hours of training through Coach University, the leading coach training organization in the country.

Jim is a member of the Harvard Business Review Advisory Council. He has been active in the Charlotte community for many years, having served in leadership roles on the boards of the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce Small Business Division, Charlotte chapter of the American Cancer Society, Charlotte Museum of History, Fletcher School, Parkinsons Association, WFAE Public Radio, Wofford College Alumni Association, Charlotte Advertising Club, and the Charlotte chapter of the American Marketing Association. He has served on the board of directors of the Urban Ministry Center, an organization serving the Charlotte homeless population, where he also has volunteered as a counselor for many years.

A resident of Charlotte, Jim is an avid cyclist, gardener, and enjoys boating and fishing when visiting his home at Smith Mountain Lake near Roanoke, Virginia.
